Civil Structural Lead Engineer

Scope of Activities on an exclusive basis for Fluor Sustaining Capital Projects. Our client is focusing on developing long-term relationships with customers in revamping, debottlenecking and expanding the production capacity of their existing facilities in the process Industry in the (South) West of the Netherlands. The Bergen op Zoom and Rotterdam offices provide the full project execution services: from conceptual engineering through commissioning and construction support. Our client has the unique market capacity to offer integrated solutions to their clients/projects. This includes fabrication, modularization and maintenance.
The Civil Structural Architectural (CSA) group is a dynamic team in which engineering, design and leadership skills are combined to effectively support our clients. In addition to a solid education focusing on engineering and/or design, a strong set of personal competencies is a prerequisite for success. Being a team player and having an ability to interact effectively with clients organization and other disciplines in our taskforce is essential.
The Civil Structural Lead Engineer will be responsible for civil and structural engineering and design services for a large variety of brown field and revamp facilities for petrochemical, oil, chemical gas and industrial services. These services comprise of conceptual design, project specifications, basic engineering, extend basic engineering and detailed design and engineering.
In addition regular contact with Client and or Owner representatives, consultants, specialist, vendors and construction contractors for coordination, classification and guidance regarding CSA design, engineering and construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform CSA design development in several project phases e.g. conceptual design, front-end design, detail engineering and design for integration of new facilities in revamp type projects as well for small grass-root type of multi-disciplinary projects.
- Leading in structural, civil and geotechnical design within the projects and writing of contractors scopeof works
Supervision, planning, organization of the work:
- Lead /coordinate a Civil Structural design team (2-4 people).
- Prepare schedules, man-hour estimates, manpower forecasts.
- Communicate and align with clients, vendors and other disciplines.
- Supervise and act as mentor for a junior level designer of junior level engineer.
- Promote and support value improvements initiatives and continuous performance improvement.
- Participate in design reviews within the project team.
- Works independently, controls / leads small teams including work sharing with foreign offices.
- Assure quality of work assigned; assure technical integrity of design documents.
- Proactive reporting project status and constraints.
- Prepare and check man-hour estimates and material estimates, and monthly budget reports for all
Engineering efforts
- Perform technical bid evaluations of received bids of suppliers.
- Multi-disciplinary project requires pro-active attitude and basic knowledge of other disciplines such as piping, mechanical and E&I. Lead CSA Engineer
Basic Job Requirements Proven Experience
- 15-20 years relevant working experience with an engineering, contractor, or production company in the process industry.
- Has theoretical and practical knowledge of civil, structural and geotechnical structures andengineering.
- Practical field and construction experience.
- Working knowledge of and ability to make (and interpret) steel- and or concrete calculations.
- Is able to interpret geotechnical reports.
- Executing jobs with 3D tools, such as Navisworks.
- Able to work with SCIA or equal 3D calculation software.
- Understanding of pertinent design codes (Eurocodes, NEN8700 serie), government regulations, and industry practices.
Minimum Requirements
- HBO civil or equivalent.
- Leadership skills.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of civil, structural and geotechnical design.
- Strong pro-active team player with good technical and communication skills (both speaking andwriting).
- Candidates shall be fluent in Dutch and English. Written and verbal communication with our clients isin Dutch and/or English.
- Willingness to travel.
- Be able to multi-task between several projects.
Working Conditions
- Generally favorable indoor office workspace, and/or;
- Various levels of environmental conditions including but not limited to project worksites and vendor/client facilities which may have temporary office space, moving mechanical parts and vibration; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and extreme temperatures and high noise levels
Other Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform physical Quality inspection of a variety of Electrical and Instrumentation activities which may include but not limited to: ATEX inspections, Electrical Heat Tracing installations, audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Act as the main point of contact for contractors and client ensuring seamless communication and understanding of their needs.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations including ATEX for explosion safety for fire risk electrical equipment and CE markings for machinery directives.
- Stay abreast of the latest Dutch laws and regulations adapting inspection processes accordingly.
- Specialize in ATEX inspections focusing on gas and dust explosion hazards.
- Conduct safety inspections of lightning protection devices (inspections).
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections including inspection plans risk analyses and supervision plans.
- Generate comprehensive reports for clients detailing inspection findings recommendations and compliance status.
Preferred Qualifications – Related Education, Experience & Skills
- Three (3) years of experience working as a Electrical Safety (ATEX) and Instrumentation quality inspector
- Certification by a recognized authority (NEN 3140 VP)
- Intermediate or expert computer and software skills to include the use of word processing and email as well as the basic or intermediate use of spreadsheets and electronic presentations
- Oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to speak/read multiple languages (English / Dutch preferred)
